Guardian has come a long way since its pioneering days in 1967, when it operated out of a mere 200 sq feet at the former Weld Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Then, its objective was to cater mainly to the expatriate community, selling health-related products and pharmacy services. Today, Guardian operates a chain of more than 290 stores serving the health, personal care and beauty needs of Malaysians, across the country.

More importantly, in its recent Shoppers' Trend Study, Guardian has been highly rated by its customers in areas, which are very important to them. These are: convenience, low prices, modern and comfortable stores, better selection of high quality brands and products, good service as well as attractive and interesting promotions.

The market leadership that Guardian has achieved is a result of sheer dedication to the needs of its customers – who are predominantly women, between the ages of 24 and 49. Its stores throughout Malaysia, stock more than 10,000 products, offering the widest and best selection of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, health foods and supplements, homecare and cosmetics. In other words, every aspect of personal care is provided for, so customers can feel and look great.

Guardian's commitment to its customers needs is also reflected in the team of professional pharmacists, who are hired and assigned to the stores to give professional advice and consultation to customers. To ensure they are able to provide timely and appropriate advice at all times, they are sent to refresher courses regularly to learn about new drugs, new diseases and viruses.

Guardian's unrivalled customer service has been cemented by a string of customer excellence awards. It won the Diners Club Members Choice Award three times in the past for "Most Favourite" retail shop for excellence in customer service, quality of merchandise, variety of goods and value for money.

In 2001, it received SURIA KLCC's Retail Award of Excellence in the general retail category. In addition, Guardian was named Pharmacy of the Year by the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society and UCB in 2000 & 2001.
More recently, 21 Guardian stores received Certificate of Excellence 2007/2008 from the Malaysia Retailers Association, as part of the Retail Service and Courtesy Standards of Excellence Accreditation Programme.

The company also believes in giving back to communities which it serves. It organises charity events at least twice a year to raise funds for worthy causes. Among the organisations which have benefited from the fund raising campaigns are the Cancer Council of Malaysia (MAKNA), the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), Pink Ribbon Deeds (PRIDE) and the Malaysian Parkinson's Disease Association.

In 2005, in recognition of the generation of customers, who have grown up with Guardian, and who are now in their 50's, Guardian re-launched their senior care programme to promote wellness. This programme includes a privilege card which entitles members to discounts on a variety of health supplements and personal care products.

Guardian's annual Health and Beauty Awards launched since 2002 is specially for customers to vote for their best-liked product in major categories. Being an authority in health and beauty, this poll not only acknowledges the customers' favourite brands, it also gives appropriate recognition to Guardian’s business partners whose products are chosen.

As Guardian celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, it continues to take pride in its professional consultations, conveniently located stores, superior product range, high quality brands, low prices, exciting promotions and excellent customer service which have all contributed to its reputation as "the one you trust" for health and beauty.
